GoldAndBlack started as a subreddit on Reddit.com, located at /r/GoldAndBlack. It has become a large Discord community as well.
GoldAndBlack is a community focused primarily on libertarian ethics, economics, and activism. Most of our community is made up of anarcho-capitalists in the spirit of Murray Rothbard and David Friedman, among others. Taxation is theft, the government is a mafia, everything should be voluntary, etc.
First, you should be aware that the community is not like many others; we do engage in moderation of posts in order to avoid noise. For instance, insulting and trolling behavior is not generally accepted, and will often result in a ban from the community. Our community is very friendly, as a result. We do not like trolls, chan-culture, or memes, but do enjoy good discussion, polite debate, and good-spirited fun.
Second, we often engage in charitable acts and community activism. If you are a fan of joining a community of libertarians who want to make the world a better place, this is a good place for you.
We believe that it's best that your money stays your money unless you're willing to part with it voluntarily. There are only 3 ways to get money in this world; either you receive it as a gift, you earn it in your owrk, or you steal it. The IRS engages in the last of those choices, you, by virtue of working as a server, bartender, or other job where people receive tips, earn money from the second and first. We think that the thieves of the world, namely the government, shouldn't have any part of that. They didn't deliver wonderful food and beverage upon the person who left that card, you did. You deserve to keep all the money that comes from that.
If I receive services from someone, it is assumed that I agreed to receive those services. If you came into my house with food and demanded payment for the food, even though I never requested any food, it would be considered rude by most. The government engages in this sort of activity; except that if I refuse to pay taxes armed men will come to my house, beat me up, and throw me in a cage. If I fight back against these hooligans, I'm likely to get shot and killed. Libertarians believe that the initiation of force against other people and their property is a bad thing to engage in, and that being a member of a government does not give someone extra rights in this regard.
Back in the day, JobDestroyer made a private subreddit for a small group of anarcho-capitalists from Reddit's /r/Anarcho_Capitalism subreddit. It became very popular, and so he floated the idea of a subreddit that didn't have a whitelist, but a blacklist that was very strict. This idea was executed by him and a few others. A user named Properal is responsible for the name and for registering the subreddit. Other moderators are listed on the sidebar. The PrivateAncap subreddit is now unused, and it's userbase has migrated to GoldAndBlack for the most part.
